For the first time, the very early sexual maturity (within 2-3 months of age against 6-9 months in exotic pigs) in nondescript local male pigs was documented, analyzed and proved scientifically through semen analysis, and in vivo pregnancy test.Unlike the routine procedures, which requires >2.5 h to stain the smears for estimation of the acrosomal integrity of sperm, the developed method requires only 45 min. A “Modified Giemsa staining method” was developed to estimate the acrosomal integrity in boar sperm.Importantly, apoptosis like changes in boar spermatozoa during preservation was also quantified.
The magnitude of the oxidative damage and lipid peroxidation to boar spermatozoa during preservation was assessed.
